Boating and Fishing
Glacier lakes, rivers and streams define the Northwoods. Right within Red Fox Run, Brady Lake is wonderful for launching your canoe or paddle boat and casting a line for pan fish, bass and blue gills. Minutes away, the expansive Pelican Lake has 3,585 surface acres and deep waters, a top spot in the state for trophy muskies and also a chance to catch bass, perch, bluegill and crappie. Ice fishing is an exciting winter option at Lake Alice near Tomahawk, for prize crappie and bluegill. Head northwest towards Rhinelander and arrive at Crescent Lake and its boat ramp. The lake's sparkling waters are filled with bluegill, bass, northern pike and walleye. Close by, Squash Lake is a slightly quieter option that also has brook trout. Lake Nokomis is the largest lake (2,433 acres) in the Tomahawk vicinity and is part of a chain of lakes that includes Bridge and Deer Lakes; Lake Nokomis is favored for boating and fantastic catches of musky and pan fish. The Wisconsin River at Hodag Park in Rhinelander has miles of kayaking, water skiing and fishing. Plenty of whitewater can be found along the rivers, including the Wausau Whitewater Park, which has been named a Center for Excellence by the United States Canoe and Kayak team.
